A Hamburger Today: Paula Deen Is Trying to Kill Us, Part 4: Bacon, Doughnut, Egg Burger:
That’s it. Paula Deen has shown her hand.

At first we could go, “Yeah she uses a lot of butter, but she clearly expects us to only be eating this way once in awhile.”

No there’s no doubt that she is throwing just the most ridiculous, heart-stopping things together just to see if anyone will actually make and eat it.

Sorry, Paula. I can see a hamburger with an egg on it. I can almost see a hamburger on a doughnut (almost), but together?

Nice try.

Still, you sort of want one, don’t you?

OK, Two Things From Engadget Today

First:

Maxell to no longer manufacture discs, blow customers away – Engadget

So Maxell will still put it’s name on the discs, but won’t actually make them. Honestly Maxell, what’s the point then?

I guess you might have made a name for yourselves in the tape and battery business, but most people probably think of media when it comes to Maxell, and since no one cares about cassettes anymore, that means discs.

If your discs are made by some no name company, and you just slap your name on it and charge me more money for that name, I think I’ll just continue to buy the cheapest discs like I always do.

Second:

Audiophiles can’t tell the difference between Monster Cable and coat hangers – Engadget

Monster cables have always been the biggest scam in all of these home electronic stores.

I always had this image in my mind of a bunch of guys striping copper out some abandoned building, sealing it in a fancy blister pack, slapping, “Monster Cable,” on it, and selling it at Best Buy.

Not that is confirms that (I’m sure Monster has some elaborate voodoo that they tell themselves makes their cables better), but this makes me feel better next time I tell the blue shirt at Best Buy where he can take is $100 for a 6″ cable upsell.

BTW, the biggest offender of the “More Money For Just A Name,” is HDMI cables. HDMI cables are for digital signals, and with digital signals, the signal either gets to the other side, or it does not. There’s no degradation, and there’s no benefit to having a cable made out of the spear that pierced the side of Christ. So save some cash and buy the cheapest HDMI cables that you can find.

Oh, and if anyone interested, apparently I have thousands of dollars worth of high-end audio cabling in my closet that I’d be will to sell at a fair price. 8)
