First, let me say I love RiffTrax. I’ve bought about 4 already, and it really is like MST3K, only with a way updated catalogs.
I haven’t bought the Riff on Wally Wonka with Neil Patrick Harris yet (mostly because I don’t have the Wally Wonka DVD), but judging by the clip they have, it looks like a good time.
On of the reasons why it looks like a good time is because How I Met Your Mother is one of my favorite shows at the moment, and Neil is great on it.
So hearing that Britney was going to be on it obviously worried me a bit, but I’ve trusted Thomas and Bays this far I was willing to follow them a little bit more. Heck, I sort of liked that Britney might have made Alicia Silverstone walk, and we ended up with Sarah Chalke instead (but that’s mostly the Scrubs fan talking).
But now watching these clips, I’m upset. While her character is supposed to be bumbling, it feels more like it Britney the actor messing up, and it sort of takes me out of the HIMYM world a bit. She seems out of place, and the whole thing feels more like publicity stunt from a show that I thought was better then that.
Now I will grant that HIMYM has alway been a bit of an underdog show and could use a bit of the spotlight a big name could bring, but I just wish it was someone with a little more acting under her belt then Crossroads.
I’m vested so I’ll stick with the show to the end, and I’m hoping Sarah will help with the Britney aftertaste, but I don’t feel like the people tuning in to see Britney will be able to see past her, and come back after she’s gone.
And, from what I hear, they need all the viewers they can get.
